Keep puzzle answers matched, even when you change the book
Seeds, settings and page order matter. A simple way to keep word search and maze solutions with the right activity pages.
A matching answer starts with the same puzzle
A solution is useful only when it belongs to the page in front of you. A word search depends on its words, grid, direction setting and seed. A maze depends on its grid and seed. Changing any of those inputs can change the finished layout.
Printable Patch calculates answers from the exact generated puzzle. It does not ask an image model to draw letters, maze walls or solutions. The same puzzle definition is used for the preview, print page and answer.
Choose how you want to hand the pages out
If everyone will receive a book, appending solutions at the end keeps the pack together. If the answers are for a facilitator, print them separately. Think about this before making a batch so that the solution is not accidentally beside the activity.
The free studio’s Include answer sheets setting adds one solution for each puzzle after the selected activity pages. Coloring pages do not produce an answer sheet. The total shown in the studio includes the appended pages.
Watch the physical page total
A five-page selection is not always a five-page print job. Three puzzles and two coloring pages become eight physical pages with answers included. The free studio stops a print job above 30 pages, so you can remove a page or turn off answers before printing.
For a separate solution, return to the original library page or custom puzzle and switch on Show solution. Keep the paper size consistent with the activity. Print a sample pair before handing out several versions.
Save definitions as well as finished files
A PDF keeps the finished layout. A studio draft keeps the selected pages, ordering and custom puzzle definitions. They serve different purposes. Save both if you may want to update the pack later.
The free studio uses browser storage. Clearing that storage removes the local draft; changing browser or device does not move it automatically. Download a draft file when the pack is worth keeping and open that file in the other browser.
Use clear names outside the studio
When saving separate PDFs, include the theme, paper size and whether a file is the puzzle or answer. If you change the seed, keep the new pair separate from the old pair. This prevents a correct answer sheet from becoming the wrong answer for the page you chose.
Before printing a revised book, look at the first and last activity and their solutions. This small check catches mismatched versions more quickly than trying to remember which file you saved first.
